Back in March I published an entry about the demolition of historic Philadelphia's Convention Hall. This is how the Hall's site looks, six months after. The pictures were taken a couple days before leaving Philadelphia, in early August. The building's debris had been removed, and the place was almost completely clear. We have to admit that the city skyline looks very nice from the point in which the enormous Art Deco structure used to hide it.

The future of other early 20th century large structures west of the Schuylkill River is still uncertain. Their permanence depends on Philadelphians, especially on the most notable of them, the University of Pennsylvania, promoter of the medical center that will be built at the now demolished Hall's site. The University also owns the nearby Franklin Field, a Romanesque-looking football field built in 1922 which is the oldest two-tiered stadium in the US, and last year it also purchased the city's main post office, built in 1935 with Art Deco features, just as the Hall. Both structures are located in an area where UPenn plans a major building redevelopment over the upcoming years.
